Reflecting on My Learning

Determining how I would assess my students' projects, as well as how my students' might assess their own projects, has really been a daunting task for me. I have spent a considerable amount of time researching the venues that are available and then trying to adapt the ones that I thought would be best suited for my students' activities.

Throughout all of this, I must say, I have certainly enhanced my skills in producing "hard copies" of documents to be used in all of these assessment activities. The impact of this part of the project has provided me with alternative activities to be used in the future in my classes, should I ever return to teaching.

  1. Assessment is often not given as much thought as how to teach something. In reality, as much or more thought should go into the formative and summative assessment process.

  2. I have to agree that developing appropriate assessments can be daunting. I always resist assessment because I don't always like making judgments, but I need to figure out what students are learning or what is improving. In my subject, ESOL, little steps in improvement take so long...it is not always clear from a one-time assessment.

  3. I too agree with how daunting developing any assessment can be. Thankfully, I have a great team to work with. We all work together to make appropriate assessment in a variety of ways. With out them, I would be beyond stressed. I hope when and if you return, you will get a great team!!!!
